Big Changes to the Red Flag Alerts List
A rundown on all 34 names since inception. Why 15 made the cut to be on my new Focus List. Plus the Red Flag Radar.
Not yet a paid subscriber to Herb on the Street and my Red Flag Alerts? Join the growing club, now in the hundreds, who want to avoid the biggest mistake investors make… or just want to understand the concept of risk. You can find out more and how to subscribe right here. If you would prefer to pay with soft dollars, or participate in an upper tier, please contact me directly.
If there is any consistency to subscriber feedback, it’s a desire that I “manage” the Red Flag Alerts List.
I’ve resisted since I don’t make buy/sell/short recommendations or “cover” companies the way Wall Street does. I find situations where there appears to be excessive risk that is likely to lead to underperformance.
The scoop-oriented ex-journalist in me also likes to be early, letting others follow (That never gets old no matter how old I get.) Alternatively, there’s always room for a fresh spin on somebody else’s old story, assuming it’s new. Likewise, I do follow-ups if I have something differentiated. No need to waste your time or mine.
Three Lists
Going forward, for premium subscribers, I’m breaking things down to three lists:
The Red Flags Master List. This is every company I’ve ever formally red-flagged. That Master List list now numbers 34, and will grow.
The Red Flags Focus List. These are companies I’m either most focused on or can’t take off because there is simply too much bubbling beneath the surface. The Focus List now numbers 15. I expect to keep it tight.
The Red Flag Radar. These are companies that I keep an eye on as possible Red Flag Alert candidates. Plus they help me keep you in the loop of what I may be working on… or merely find interesting. There are currently four, but there will be more.
Today’s agenda…
Companies that that didn’t make the Focus List.
Companies companies that did.
Companies on the Red Flag Radar.
